Five things to know for Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012
1. Do you have a sweet tooth? We need your help. In this month’s round of Food Fight we’re going to find the best place to get cupcakes in Stonington and Groton. There are so many places to choose from, First Bite, Bleu Squid, Lis Bake Shop, are just a few that come to mind. With Valentine’s Day coming up we need your nominations for the best place to get a cupcake.
2. It’s Men’s Night at Fripperies. The downtown Mystic store invites men to come shop from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. There will be food, drinks, models, free gift-wrapping and 10 percent off purchases.
3. A special meeting of the Stonington Board of Selectmen will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Stonington Police Department meeting room. However, Ledge Light Health District representatives will not be in attendance as originally planned. Instead they will attend the March 14 board meeting in order to give the Stonington Borough Warden and Burgesses a chance to discuss the possibility of Stonington joining the district at their next meeting. Take our poll and let us know if you think Stonington should join the district.
Following the selectmen meeting will be the Stonington Board of Finance meeting at 7 p.m. The Human Services and WPCA budgets will be presented at that meeting.
4. On Feb. 8, 1983, gunmen stole an Irish racehorse worth $13.5 million. The horse, named Shergar, was never seen again.

I ilke it when local businesses like Fripperies host nights like this. It allows us to pick out gifts in stores we otherwise wouldn't feel comfortable in. Also, free food!
