McDonald's Celebrates Grand Opening Of Pawcatuck Location

Ronald McDonald was in Pawcatuck for the opening of the McDonald's on Voluntown Road near Stop & Shop and Regal Cinemas.

 

With the cutting of the red and yellow ribbon the McDonald’s on Voluntown Road in Pawcatuck officially became the newest McDonald’s in southeastern Connecticut.

The restaurant located near and opened last week, but on Thursday, July 12, 2012, it celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting, flag ceremony and basket raffles.

“This is an innovative restaurant,” ., said at the grand opening.

According to Haberek and press releases from the company the new McDonald’s in Pawcatuck is an environmentally friendly restaurant that will attempt to have a low carbon footprint by paying attention to where its food comes from, using energy efficient appliances and paying attention to packaging, waste and recycling. Joining Haberek at the grand ceremony were the Knights of Columbus, state Rep. Diana Urban, the , , representatives from the Westerly-Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce, Ronald McDonald, Grimace, and the Hamburglar.

To celebrate the opening McDonald’s will be holding basket raffles throughout July and August with the proceeds going to the Providence Ronald McDonald House, the , the Jonnycake Center and the .

The restaurant is the fifth McDonald’s in a 10-radius, and eatery coming to town. Haberek, however, noted that McDonald’s wanted to come to Pawcatuck and was the only restaurant candidate for the location that was ready to build with financing.

And many locals seemed to be enjoying the place on Thursday. The McDonald’s was busy with people coming in to grab something quick to go or stopping to sit down and chat with friends.

“I am excited about the green friendly McDonald’s here and very glad for the work opportunities this brings to our region for residents as well as our summer students here from other countries,” Donna Pearlman wrote on Stonington-Mystic Patch. “I hope some American kids will work as hard as the kids I see at McDonalds.”
