Week In Review: Groundhog Day, Grand Jury, Super Bowl
A Recap Of The Week’s Top Stories On Stonington-Mystic Patch
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired. It was a busy week in Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck. Hopefully, you are preparing for a relaxing Sunday maybe getting ready to head to a Super Bowl party later in the day or out to a sports bar to watch the game.
If you are heading out to watch the game, we hope you’re heading to Sneekers Cafe, which was the winner of the Stonington-Groton Food Fight for Best Sports Bar. We’ll be giving Sneekers a plaque celebrating their win, similar to the one we gave Stonington Pizza Palace. And check into Patch next week for a Food Fight on cupcakes.
If you’re still searching for the perfect recipe to bring to that Super Bowl party check out Clinton Patch Editor Fay Abrahamsson’s special editions of In The Kitchen With Fay. This week she gave us a recipe for Chicken and White Bean Chili, Slow-Cooker Chili, Easy Shrimp Dip and Shrimp Mousse. And if none of those recipes sound appealing, although really how could they not, search through the archives for even more recipes.
While you’re cooking up some of those recipes browse through some of the other stories of the week. It was Groundhog Day on Thursday and while Punxsutawney Phil thinks there will be six more weeks of winter Connecticut Chuckles said ‘winter is cancelled.’ Not good news for Regional Editor Elissa Bass who would like to see some more snow on the ground.
Also this week, a Rhode Island Grand Jury found there was no reason to indict any of the Westerly Police Officers involved in the arrest of Mystic’s Ryan O’Loughlin last year. O’Loughlin died not long after being released from police custody. Patch users weighed in on the decision on our website and on our Facebook page.
One Patch user asked me an interesting question this week: ‘is made-in-the-U.S. the new green?’ I’d love to hear what you think.
We covered lots more this week and throughout the weekend, so search the site for other stories, follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates and check out our calendar to see what's happening next week in town.
