While I'm all for the values that the Ten Commandments gives us, I also don't want to be defenselessRead More because someone who chooses not to follow them is putting my life in danger. The Right to Bear Arms was created by men, for the purpose of the people of this country having a means to defend ourselves from people who mean us harm, or from a government who might seek to take away our arms for nefarious purposes. A very great man once said, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it." Just out of curiosity, if someone were to invade your home, and attack you and your family, putting your lives in danger, what would you be willing to do to defend your lives?
Diana Palmentiero May 25, 2013 at 11:49 am
Who gave us this right to bear arms? Men. The only God given law was the Ten Commandments. One ofRead More them explicitly says "Thou shall not kill."
Laurie Laidley May 24, 2013 at 12:01 pm
I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.

The unions are in support and wrote this bill with a couple of state representatives. Council 4 ofRead More AFSCME is fighting for this bill to pass for all those that work hard in the State of Connecticut. Any support would be great. Thank you.
frank pucci May 19, 2013 at 10:21 am
my letter will be off monday,i am in total support of this bill. after working your whole life oneRead More should be able to retire with dignity and enjoy your last years. if the unions in the state can work with you for the passage of this bill, this bill SB 54 WILL PASS.

I'm sure it will work splendidly! So much more flexibility, especially if you'll be posting your ownRead More stuff (which we, of course, encourage!).

Sweet! I love watching life in transit, there's nothing better and more uplifting than to watchRead More folks great each other at the airport. While a welcome home Hershey bar would be appreciated, I am sure that the simple act of physically picking someone up at the airport versus taking a bus home is simply perfect. Great story. No balloons required.

It just seems to me, ADD/ ADHD should fall into a Spectrum. Similar to Autism, there are vastRead More differences in the severity of symptoms & personalities & the different ways they learn... Rather than lumping them together as one,it should be more of a one on one with specialists. This investment of time & money is just that,an investment. I was tested at age 42.... passing with flying colours! Now I knew WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME! I began Medication that changed my life. I share this with you as an Advocate for early intervention.
janis albamonti May 8, 2013 at 10:45 am
ADD/ADHD diagnosis should be on Spectrum like Autism is based. It seems as tho it would make it thatRead More much easier to treat them individually, rather that be lumped together. FYI, it is a real pain in the ass & frightening not to be able to finish a simple task, see words differently, understand directions. You know you are different you spend exhausting amounts of energy to compensate for faulty wiring.

It's called having an opinion. It's just as inappropriate to assume commenters don't meet yourRead More narrow definition.

I'm more worried about the dictators in Hartford and Washington D.C. than N. Korea.
Sandy D'Esopo April 2, 2013 at 01:35 pm
No, I haven't time to worry about things or events over which I have utterly no control. MeteoritesRead More plunging through my roof while I and my wife sleep, a car jumping the centerline and hitting mine, or a fish dropped by an osprey smacking me on the head: life is too short to fret over such things. I don't even worry about my health, not much anyway. I have to die sometime and of something. It might as well be doing something I love, like eating a 3-pound lobster.

I would like to thank all my Montville Lion Friends. I took up a collection so a young person couldRead More play Lacrosse. In less than five mintutes I had $328.00 to buy all the equipment. Lions have big hearts and give of themselves to help others. It makes me feel awesome to help other as I have been on the other side. Thanks to all who have support The Montville Lion.

Ed, that's great. Would be nice if Water Street is on the list. Looking a little more than beatRead More up, especially in the center of town.

Question Mark May 10, 2013 at 03:19 pm
I live on the West Coast and the same occurs here. I'm old enough to remember the "PitchRead More In!" and "Keep America Beautiful" campaigns in the '60s and '70s. Somehow we've lost the public reinforcement of the importance of showing responsibility for keeping our cities clean. I regularly pick up trash on my street. It comes not only from people discarding wrappers and drink containers on purpose, but sometimes items that miss the truck on trash and recycling day and even wind-blown trash on occasion. Usually there is no more than a handful of litter on several blocks of street. I talk to people about what I do, and hope it encourages others to do likewise.
frank pucci April 21, 2013 at 01:40 pm
my question is why didnt you get the number plate and turn it into the police dept
david brown April 19, 2013 at 10:50 am
I pick up trash on River Road and have been doing so for the past 30 years. It is discouraging.Read More You are right that supposedly intelligent people do this. Another thing that irks me is my neighbors will have a piece of trash in front of their house and won't pick it up. I guess it will never change.

I agree the new format is not a good as the old one just more ads which I realize who pays for theRead More news. The blog is posted at all hours now before it was put out about the sanme time every morning with the breaking alerts as they happened much nicer. We also need the black print on white back ground much easier to read. I now usually find myself deleting it quickly instead of reading or looking for something interesting to read.
mckenna2 April 17, 2013 at 01:43 pm
Great new format. It's so boring I am able to hit delete without even opening ,adding three moreRead More free minutes of computer time to go onto something else. Quite an awakening after the previous format. 10-4 & gone
Joel April 17, 2013 at 10:59 am
New format is terrible! But it makes room for more ads and fewer comments...

Sorry about the block of text. It wasn't like that when I hit the button. :) That's a bug thatRead More should be worked out soon by our tech people.

Laurie you took the words out of my mouth, it's do as I say not as I do. And Donna, I don't work forRead More the landlords, I just have tremendous respect for them, as people in general!!!
Donna Pearlman April 26, 2013 at 10:03 am
I always qualify my remarks Laurie and I was noting to Joann she should not misquote me. I don'tRead More think having a college degree is the only thing that makes a person intelligent and experience is always desirable as well. I am fortunate to have both. And I don't have to re-read the posts I have put up on this matter I always am careful and aware of the implications of anything I say or put in writing.
Laurie Laidley April 26, 2013 at 10:01 am
Oh, so it's perfectly okay for you to make derogatory and disparaging statements about others, butRead More it isn't okay for anyone to have an opinion contrary to yours? For your information, I have 15 years of experience in Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology. While I may not have a college degree, experience does count for something. If I were you, I'd go back and re-read all the posts that you've put up on this matter. The only one here making you look bad is you.

I don't care for the new look very much. I used to enjoy the morning email digest else kind of likeRead More my morning paper. Now it's unreadable, containing much less information than it used to.

Everything is squished into much smaller space in the center of the screen. It makes The Patch muchRead More harder to read and to navigate. The ads seem to be taking up just as much room as the text and there is still huge amounts of open space on my screen, yet the stories are difficult to find and reading them seems claustrophobic. Even this comment box is so small I can't see more than two lines at a time. I am NOT a fan of the new look. I think it will reduce my readership significantly.

Nor any other type of loan. But the truth is that the lenders are the ones with the financialRead More savvy, and consumers are conditioned to believe that if they qualify for credit the bank has determined that they will be able to pay it back. The problem with student loans is that they are given to people who could never otherwise qualify because the government guarantees them. Are those consumers naive or badly informed? Probably, but the statute books of the federal government and all fifty states are planted thick with laws to protect borrowers who lack sophistication. The student loan bubble is no different than the housing bubble. Give people loans for which they are not really qualified so they can buy something they want and you flood the market with cash. In response, the prices of things people want to pay for with their loans (diplomas and houses) skyrocket, the sellers knowing that Uncle Sam will keep pumping more cash into the system. The housing bubble burst and when there are enough people unable to carry the non-dischargable debt they took on to pay $40,000/year tuition the student loan bubble will also burst. Since we taxpayers will be picking up the pieces I am not willing to just say "nobody forced you" and leave it at that.
J. Smith April 2, 2013 at 09:17 pm
Two professional, hard working Taxpayers, perhaps if they continue to be employed, pay their taxesRead More and stay off the dole, the Government will see they deserve a break. The Government does have high hopes for their projected revenue (taxes) in the future. “I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.”
Steve April 2, 2013 at 08:55 pm
Maybe they should not have deferred and chose to overpay the outstanding debt on the student loans.Read More Looks like they make a pretty good buck between them, maybe 150k a year. Tell them to look in a lower price range, maybe they need to work up to the dream home. I did, and so did a lot of the rest of us who paid off their student loans and didn't put it off.

Really? So they can start banning sports because of injuries.
Just my opinion April 10, 2013 at 11:22 am
One big issue is even though my child plays school sports she plays travel sports so an injury fromRead More travel might not be recorded as travel and go under school making the study wrong. Many children play outside of school how would they make sure they have proper data. Maybe they should document something that they can be sure that the info they use is correct.
Mike Atkins April 8, 2013 at 07:45 am
@Sean, irrelevant, only because parents think their child is the next great athlete and are willingRead More to pay the thousands of dollars to get them a spot on a team. Typically many of those child athletes would have a difficult time making the HS team without Daddy's money.

Steve I hope this gets to you in time. Don't go on that egg hunt! Apparently you have never seen anRead More Easter egg hunt before. After the egg hunt starting cannon roars, hundreds of undisciplined kids and hooligans rush the field grabbing for everything they can find. Heaven forbid you find and pick up an egg, they will be all over you. You'll be lucky to keep your shoes. Suggest that you and Peaches clutch your valuables and head for the exits ASAP. And by the way do you realize that your magic hat is changing color. Is it due to a natural phenomenon? No one could own that many hats.

Excellent piece Kyle! In Daniel Pink's new best seller "To Sell is Human" he takes RobertRead More Greenleaf's concept of servant leadership a step further; servant seller.
