Borough Bathrooms on the Horizon?

When you gotta go ...well, you may be out of luck. But not for long, hopefully, in the Borough at Town Dock.

Don’t you hate being out and about in public, needing a restroom and not finding one?

In Stonington Borough, according to First Selectman Edward Haberek and a report today in The Westerly Sun, a plan to bring public rest rooms back is being studied.

The Sun reports Haberek as saying the long-closed bathrooms near the wastewater treatment plant and town dock could possibly be renovated to make them accessible.

Haberek said in a statement to Patch that the idea has support from the Southern New England Fishermen and Lobstermen’s Association and the Stonington Borough Merchant’s Association. (Editor's Note: Previously it was stated New England Science & Sailing Foundation grant monies would be used; Haberek clarified that that grant cannot be reallocated. The plan is to utilize town LoCIP funding.)

“This is a terrific collaborative project as the need for permanent restrooms are key with the active area around the town dock,” Haberek said. “We look forward to possibly using LoCIP grant monies," for the project, Haberek said.
