Last week, Theresa Madonna-- candidate for State Senate in Connecticut’s 18th District—was invited to attend the “Right Women, Right Now” Nashville Summit hosted by the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC). Right Women, Right Now is a national program that seeks to identify and support 150 qualified Republican women across the country in their campaigns for state-level elected office. According to the Rutgers Center on America Women and politics, women hold less than 25% of elected statewide offices at both the legislative and executive levels.
Madonna was 1 of 10 women selected and hosted by the RSLC to attend the event and was the only woman from New England. The day involved training sessions which included presenters such as Susana Martinez, Governor of New Mexico; Carrie Lucas, author of Liberty is No War on Women; and Diane Black, a United States Congresswoman from Tennessee.
Experts in campaign strategy and media assisted the 10 candidates with ideas and offered individual guidance for the last 40 days of their respective campaigns. A luncheon was held which included over 150 RSLC donors who were invited to meet the 10 candidates and learn more about their backgrounds, goals and plans. Entertainment included a performance by country singer Jo Dee Messina and a reception at the home of Joan and John Rich of “Big and Rich.”
Madonna expressed her excitement about being involved in such an informative summit and important opportunity in her campaign to win the State Senate seat representing the eight towns of the district: “Once I got past the overwhelming gratitude I felt about just being asked to participate in such an extraordinary event, I recognized the importance of what the RSLC is trying to do and I’m so happy to be a part of it. On behalf of all women who strive for public service, I commend their efforts and appreciate their support of Republican women.”
According to its website, “[t]he RSLC is the largest caucus of Republican state leaders and the only national organization whose mission is to elect down ballot, state-level Republican office-holders.” The RSLC promotes a pro-growth agenda focused on reforming healthcare, promoting education, and encouraging sound energy initiatives.
