More Than 260 Bras Strung Across Olde Mistick Village

On Saturday and Sunday, October 15th and 16th, hosted a Women’s Health and Wellness Expo featuring the fundraising event “” to benefit the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.   Although this type of event has been undertaken many times around the world, this breast cancer awareness activity was undertaken for the first time in Connecticut during the Expo at Olde Mistick Village.

Over 260 bras were donated by members of the community, Olde Mistick Village shopowners and their families.   Some were decorated as part of the Decorating Contest sponsored by Joyce Olsen Resnikoff, owner of Olde Mistick Village.   The winner of the “Best Decorated Bra” Contest was Judith Smith of Westerly, RI.   After the event, the donated bras were gifted to the Women’s Center of Southeastern Connecticut.

To further support the cause, shops in Olde Mistick Village each donated a basket with product from their store valued in excess of $50.00.    Attendees of the event purchased raffle tickets to win the basket of their choice.   In addition, each individual who donated $5 and a bra to be hung in the Village over the weekend received tickets for the basket raffle.  All basket raffle proceeds benefit the Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation charity recipient as well.

Over $4,000 was raised for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation through the bra donation component, the basket raffles, and donations by individuals.

This foundation is a unique, local nonprofit group that directs 100% of gross fundraising to breast cancer research.  Marianne Esposito, Executive Director of TBBCF offered: “The Olde Mistick Village Health & Wellness Expo was a great way to spend a fall weekend.’ Bras Across the Village' was a special way to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness month! We are so fortunate to have OMV donate the proceeds to TBBCF, and 100% of our gross fundraising goes directly to breast cancer research.”

The Expo also featured experts and practitioners in Health and Fitness, Relaxation Techniques, Child Care, Travel & Finance.  Other activities included an Antique Car Show, and live entertainment from well known musicians The Munsell Brothers Band, Chris MacKay & The Tone Shifters, Ron Drago, Ground Shakers, the Hell Hounds and Calabria Bella who generously donated their talent for the cause.

The free fun family event was sponsored by the Olde Mistick Village Merchants Association, Kool 101 Radio Station, Re/Max Coast and Country, La Bottega, Westerly Chiropractic Center, Newport Federal Bank, and Curves of Westerly and Mystic.
