Seventh Annual Career Day At Stonington High School

will be hosting its 7th Annual Career Day on Tuesday, April 12. This event is an opportunity for students to meet with representatives from the community to discuss possible future career paths.

Past career opportunities have included police officers, doctors, dentists, teachers, graphic designers and nurses. Career Day is an all-day event featuring round-table discussions from 9:00 to 10:30am in the Café Commons as well as activities in all classes throughout the day. Students are able to choose a schedule to align with their individual interests and then meet in small groups with representatives to discuss education requirements, training and job responsibilities. SHS students are then given an opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussions with professionals in their field of interest.

Career Day is a great experience that connects the students of SHS and the professionals in the community. The school community is grateful to the partnerships that have developed as a result of this event throughout the years.

For more information on signing up to present a career path to a group of interested high school students, please contact Ann-Marie Houle at

While I'm all for the values that the Ten Commandments gives us, I also don't want to be defenselessRead More because someone who chooses not to follow them is putting my life in danger. The Right to Bear Arms was created by men, for the purpose of the people of this country having a means to defend ourselves from people who mean us harm, or from a government who might seek to take away our arms for nefarious purposes. A very great man once said, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it." Just out of curiosity, if someone were to invade your home, and attack you and your family, putting your lives in danger, what would you be willing to do to defend your lives?

Who gave us this right to bear arms? Men. The only God given law was the Ten Commandments. One ofRead More them explicitly says "Thou shall not kill."

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.
