A group of students recently participated in a Rotary Club of Mystic public speaking contest. The winner was Joni Moody, she advances to compete at a regional level in Rotary International's annual 4 Way Test public speaking competition. Each speech was 7 minutes long; students selected their own topics which reflected an application of Rotary's 4 Way Test: "Is it the Truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build good will and better friendships and will it be beneficial to all concerned."
Speech topics were about the application of ethics. Every member of Rotary, in their club induction ceremony, pledges to apply the 4 Way Test to the all the things they say and do.
Each year the Rotary Club of Mystic distributes over $30,000 in local grants and scholarships and provides hundreds of hours of free community service at non profit agencies. The Rotary Club of Mystic meets each Monday for lunch at the Mystic Hilton.
