Mystic Middle Uniforms Travel Across the Globe

UConn Basketball Hall of Famer Vianna McGugan brings her talents and uniforms, balls, whistles and equipment donated by Mystic Middle School to needy children in Uganda. She coordinated the donation and basketball clinics in Eastern Africa with Call to Care Uganda, a Connecticut nonprofit organization whose mission is to help vulnerable children in Uganda through education and health initiatives. She was joined on this trip by Stonington locals, Therese Alexander, Mary Hughes, Roy Humphreys Barbara Loftus, and Nanci Waugh, as part of a 15 year outreach partnership with Calvary Church. The entire team brought different skills, friendship, 6 large duffel bags of supplies including eye glasses, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and financial support from the Calvary community to support two schools, the Chain Foundation and Orphanage and the Peak Heritage Educational Center. Chain is the first of its kind in Uganda to integrate the sighted and blind children. This model school currently serves over 300 students from the orphanage and nearby villages.
