Winthrop's 5K Challenge

The Winthrop Elementary Magnet School STEM Annual “Take the Winthrop 5K Challenge” walk-run will take place on May 3, 2014 beginning at Winthrop Elementary Magnet School, 74 Grove Street, New London, Connecticut. 

This challenging 5K run, which begins at 10 a.m., brings you through rolling hills within the city.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., and fitness instructor Kate Kennedy of Power Up Professional Fitness will lead participants in a warm up at 9:30 a.m. Registration for the walk-run is $20 for adults, and $10 for participants under 18. The first 200 registered participants will receive a tee shirt. Following the race, participants are invited to attend an awards ceremony and cookout. In addition, free blood pressure screenings and healthy lifestyle information will be provided by United Community & Family Services.

All proceeds will benefit the Winthrop STEM Magnet PTO, Inc. which funds educational field trips; school supplies and supplemental educational support for teachers, staff and families of Winthrop Elementary Magnet School. This is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event and is sponsored by The Shack, MetroCast, and Fast Signs.
