Daily Five: Board of Finance Meets

Five things to know for Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

1. The Board of Finance meets at 7 p.m., at the Stonington Police Station to hear a presentation of the Board of Education budget. The meeting is open to the public.

2. Get some dinner while helping at the Westerly Public Library. It's Library Night at Guytanno's Cafe in Westerly. Enjoy dinner from 5 to 11 p.m. and 15 percent of your bill will be donated to the Westerly Public Library. Guytanno’s is located at 62 Franklin St., in Westerly.

3. The 54-hour closure of the Mystic drawbridge will not begin today due to impending storm. The bridge closure will now take place from noon Monday, March 11 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. During that time, the bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The closure was to allow the installation of a vehicle barrier gate system that will span Route 1 on the Stonington side of the bridge. Businesses will remain open.

4. The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut is hosting a blood pressure clinic today from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the North Stonington Senior Center.

5. The Mystic & Noank Library, Bill Memorial Library and the Groton Public Library are looking for some good books to eat. The 7th Annual Edible Books Festival takes place on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Groton Public Library, but the libraries need edible book entries by March 28.

According to an announcement posted on Patch, an edible book can look like a book, be a pun on a title, refer to a character in a book or just have something to do with books.

Anyone can create an edible entry. Contact the Friends of the Bill Memorial Library at 860-445-0392, the Groton Public Library Circle of Friends at 860-441-6750 or the Friends of the Mystic & Noank Library at 860-536-7721 for an entry form and find more information at theInternational Edible Book Festival website.
