Daily Five: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Looking For Artists

Five things to know for Thursday, April 19, 2012

 

1. Calling all artists! The and the Jimmy Fund are looking for local artists to help create the organizations 2012 Holiday Collection. Artists are welcome to submit artwork, photographic designs for holiday cards, candle wrap or ornaments that will be sold by dana Farber as a fundraiser. Artists who wish to participate should email their designs in .jpg format to holiday_orders@dfci.harvard.edu. Please include artist name, e-mail, and phone number with the submission. The deadline to send in all designs is May 15.

2. The Westerly Relay For Life is looking for your nominations for this year’s The “Courage Award” recognizes a local cancer survivor who has triumphed over cancer, made significant contributions to cancer control and has impacted the lives of others. If you have someone in mind submit an essay detailing why the person you are nominating deserves the award by May 30, 2012. For questions or more information email westerlysurvivor@hotmail.com.

3. It’s . Tonight’s theme is colorful containers. For $10 guests will you use old containers to create ornaments and flower holders while sipping on Spring Fling martinis. Reserve your place by calling 860-536-7601 extension 209.

4. The first Boston Marathon took place on April 19, 1897. John J. McDermott was the winner finishing with a time of 2:55:10.
