Daily Five: Fundraiser For Pawcatuck Child

Five things to know for Thursday, April 12, 2012

1. Bring your pets to Harkness Memorial State Park from noon to 6 p.m. today for Pet Portrait day. The event is a fundraiser to support the purchase of a diabetic alert dog for 7-year-old Christian Hudson of Pawcatuck. The dog is trained to detect changes in blood sugar level and alert the diabetic person.

2. Stonington Director of Planning William Haase passed away Tuesday. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Patch will post the obituary when it becomes available.

3. Head to Groton for the of Southeastern Connecticut’s 58th Annual Sale. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Grasso Tech you’ll find items such as jewelry, furniture, linens, toys sporting goods and more. The sale raises funds for the Child & Family Agency.

4. The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861 when Confederate soldiers fired on the Union-controlled Fort Sumter in South Carolina.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.

The unions are in support and wrote this bill with a couple of state representatives. Council 4 ofRead More AFSCME is fighting for this bill to pass for all those that work hard in the State of Connecticut. Any support would be great. Thank you.

my letter will be off monday,i am in total support of this bill. after working your whole life oneRead More should be able to retire with dignity and enjoy your last years. if the unions in the state can work with you for the passage of this bill, this bill SB 54 WILL PASS.
