Mystic St. Patrick’s Parade Kicks off Sunday March 25th
1pm

On Sunday March 25th, the 9th Annual Mystic St. Patrick’s Parade will kick off at 1 p.m. sharp. Over 100 marching units and 25 marching bands will perform along
the parade route from Mystic Seaport Museum to the Mystic Art Association.

This year’s parade will be the host to no less than 11 Pipe Bands, more than any other parade in the state! In
addition to these excellent musicians, we’re expecting 1,600 plus marchers, including Irish Step Dancers, Fife & Drum Units, Military Drill Teams, Honor Guard Units from several local organizations and Drum & Bugle Corps. The
parade will also feature Classic Antique Cars, High-Tech Firefighting Equipment, Police Units, 3 area high school bands, Scout Troops, and colorful floats designed and fabricated by area businesses.

This years parade will be led by Joyce Olson Resnikoff, who has the been selected as the 2011 Grand Marshal!
There are few Mystic treasures as respected and appreciated as Joyce Olson Resnikoff.  A strong leader in business and philanthropy, Joyce’s involvement and energy have benefited numerous charitable and civic organizations.  As a business woman and entrepreneur, Joyce has been a Director of numerous boards and is a driving force for the area’s economy.

Joyce is co-owner of Olde Mistick Village and the Groton Shopping Plaza. Joyce will have the honor of
leading the 1600 plus marchers down the streets of Mystic in front of 20,000 plus spectators on this fine day.

This year, we have an extra special treat for the Mystic Irish Parade! The world famous Irish Rock Band, Black 47! Led by Irish author, playwright, and songwriter Larry Kirwan, Black 47 espouses an unblinkingly political and thoroughly Irish form of rock 'n' roll. From their flatbed truck they’re sure to be an exciting and exhilarating experience for parade goers of all ages!

These gala events are organized by the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation, a consortium of local residents, businesspeople and volunteers who have joined ranks to make these
annual events a community-wide cultural tradition. The parade is funded by proceeds from these events, the generosity of local business sponsorships and individual sale of raffle tickets. Surplus funds from parades are donated to local charities. Previous years parades have supported the Southeastern CT Women’s Center, Mystic Flag Pole Committee, Boy Scouts of America, Groton and Stonington Police Benevolent Associations, Centro de la
Communidad of New London, Mystic YMCA, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, Saint Mark’s and Society of St. Edmund’s Retreat Center.

Major event sponsors for the 8th Annual Mystic St. Patrick’s Parade include Levine Distributors, F&F Distributors, 106.5 WBMW and Jammin’ 107.7.
