What Streetscape/Bridge Project? Celebrate End of You-Know-What at Spring Stroll

Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Patch will be there; look for the green Patch t-shirt and say hey!

By Ellyn Santiago.

Shopkeepers and restaurateurs in downtown Mystic have been waiting (exceedingly) patiently for this day; the end (or very near the end) of the streetscape project and the completion of the major drawbridge facelift.

So to celebrate, downtown will come alive Saturday May 4 beginning at 10 a.m. as business owners swing open their doors and welcome the community in a fun-filled day packed with events and promotions from until 7 p.m. (perfect timing; then grab the sunset before heading home. Or, even better, stay for dinner!)

The near completion of construction will allow area residents to reconnect with the beauty of historic downtown Mystic and enjoy a hassle-free day of shopping, dining, and entertainment for the whole family.

So much to do:
·      Get your hands dirty at the ‘Plant a Seed’ table outside Tidal River Clothing.
·      Peppergrass & Tulip will host an arts & crafts table for children of all ages.
·      The Green Elephant will paint faces.

·      Special Olympics of Connecticut will be at the Mystic & Noank Library to display their Unified Art Program. Come and learn more about the organization and its wonderful mission!
·      Throughout the day strollers will be treated to musical entertainment from the sidewalk at Mystic Disc.
·      Salty Dog is hosting an “Open Mic” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shaw & Company, Pennywise, Rob Rivers Salon & Spa, Rochelle's of Mystic, S&P Oyster Company, Shades of Mystic, the Steamboat Inn, Stonewear Clothing, Stonington Feed, Studio M, Trade Winds Gallery, Whalers Inn, and many more.
·      There will also be freebies, like tasty treats and nibbles from Kate's Café, Lis Bake Shop and Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream. Or, stop by Wayne’s Barber Shop for mini cupcakes and mini massages.
·      Plus, chances to win cool Mystic-related prizes like a Mystic River Bascule Bridge charm, scallop shell pendant, or sea star earrings from Goldsmith & Silversmith Co. or a Mystic poster from the Finer Line Gallery.
·      Another bonus? Harp and Hound Irish Pub, Mystic Pizza and Pizzetta will extend discounts to diners showing proof of purchase in downtown that day. Daniel Packer Inn will provide a complimentary glass of house wine with a proof of purchase. Other drink and dining specials will be available at the Ancient Mariner, Anthony J's Bistro, Azu, Bravo Bravo, Oyster Club and Zhang's Restaurant.

And believe  it or not, there’s more: a complete list of participating businesses and their specials is available by visiting the events page on mysticchamber.org.

See you Saturday! Stonington AND Groton Patch will be there! Look for your intrepid editor wearing a green Patch t-shirt and say hey!
