Poetic Mondays

Jan 9th, 2012- Mystic, CT  Emerson Theater Collaborative announces Poetic Mondays at The Riverwalk Restaurant on 14 Holmes St in Mystic, CT from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  Featured Poets include John Stanizzi and Kate Rushin.  There will also be an open mic, and some youth will be reciting their poetry as well. Featured Poet– John L. Stanizzi’s first book, Ecstasy Among Ghosts, was published by Antrim House Books (www.antrimhousebooks.com); it’s now in its 3rd printing.  His second book, Sleepwalking (also with Antrim House) was released in October, 2009. His poems have appeared in The New York Quarterly, Tar River Poetry, Rattle, Freshwater, Passages North, The Spoon River Quarterly, Poet Lore, The Connecticut River Review, Stone Country, Hawk & Handsaw, Gutter Eloquence, SNReview, and many others.

In 1998, The New England Association of Teachers of English named Mr. Stanizzi The New England Poet of the Year. John Stanizzi teaches English at Bacon Academy in Colchester and at Manchester Community College, where he was also the Poet in Residence.  He directed the theater program at Bacon Academy for 15 years.

John has read at many venues throughout Connecticut, including RJ Julia (Madison), Word Forge (Hartford), The Hygienic Gallery (New London), MishiMayaGat (Manchester), The Connecticut Poetry Circuit at Manchester Community College, Poetry on the Line (Windsor), The Asnuntuck Poetry Festival (Enfield), with Gerald Stern at the Mystic Arts Center (Mystic), and many others.  This summer introduced Connecticut Poet Laureate, Dick Allen at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival in Farmington with a lecture/discussion session prior to the reading.
