Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend
Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend
After being cooped up indoors this week, there’s really no excuse for staying in anymore. Seriously, unless you’ve developed a strange fascination with staring at your walls or something, it’s time for you to get out. Grab a drink, have some dinner, indulge in a little retail therapy—we don’t care, just go do something! And, as always, we’ve put together a few suggestions for your weekend.
1. ANNUAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND FLEA MARKET
WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Thomas Lee House Grounds in Niantic.

WHY GO: Support the East Lyme Historical Society, take a tour of the Thomas Lee House and the Little Boston School House and find some treasures.
PRICING: Free and open to the public.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday at the Essex Steam Train.
WHY GO: Help out the Friends of the Valley Railroad with a ride on the red caboose!
PRICING: It’s an extra $5 for a caboose ride, but a whole lot of fun!

WHERE/WHEN: Artists will display their work at the Apple Orchard Saturday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WHY GO: Do a little shopping, enjoy some art and check out a at the gazebo on Saturday at 2 p.m.
PRICING: Free.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday through Monday at Mystic Seaport.
WHY GO: It’s a fine time to celebrate those who are there to help us out in times of trouble!
PRICING: First responders with ID get free admission, and their family members get discounted admission. All others pay regular general admission museum fees.
5. U.S. COAST GUARD BAND LABOR DAY CONCERT
WHERE/WHEN: Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Fort Trumbull State Park in New London.
WHY GO: Tour the Coast Guard Cutter “Eagle” both before and after the concert!
PRICING: Free and open to the public.
