Dr. David Boisoneau: Making A Difference Is Good Medicine

Ear Nose And Throat Associates Of Southeastern Connecticut Partner In Mystic Builds A Fulfilling Life Locally

At the library, on the soccer field, or dining out, I occasionally hear the praises of different practitioners from , so they must be doing something right. Established 50 years ago by a single practitioner who asked patients to take a number and put their payment in a tin, the practice is now thriving in Waterford and Mystic with a selection of four fabulous doctors.

Dr. David Boisoneau, one of four partners of ENT Associates, has been a surgeon and member of the practice for 11 years.

Originally from the suburbs of Hartford, the humorous and personable Boisoneau attended East Catholic High and worked as a bag boy throughout where he first met high school sweetheart and wife Kristine.

“We met at a grocery store, she was the check out girl and I was the bag boy and that’s how it worked,” Boisoneau said. “She kept calling me up front to bag groceries—that’s how she picked me up.”

With a family in dentistry, Boisoneau’s plan in high school was to pursue something biology or medicine related. He jokes about the inevitability of his zoology major at University of Vermont solely to circumvent botany class, but admitted entry into medical school was competitive so he first decided to gain an edge through experience.

“I worked for a couple of years prior to med school in Farmington at UConn in the research labs.” Boisoneau said. “I essentially collected urine from Holocaust survivors for years. We would fly to Cleveland collecting urine samples and measure them for elevated stress levels.”

The next decade was action packed for Boisoneau. He joined UConn for med school in 1991, got married in 1993, graduated in 1995, had their first child in 1996 with a second in 1999 and finished residency at UConn in 2000. With a love of fixing things, Boiseneau found his passion in surgery.

After college and post doctorate work at UConn, David, Kristine and their new family were in search of an ideal place to settle into and in 2000 relocated to Stonington to work at ENT Associates.

“This is a great area,” Boisoneau said. “In high school we would travel to East Beach in Charlestown and when the opportunity arose to work here, it was a no brainer. I love being near the ocean and shore or jump in your car and go skiing—I love the accessibility.”

Outside of work, he enjoys his wife, family of three and a side of physical activity such as golf, biking or swimming.

“I’ve recently gotten into training and competing in triathlons,” he said. “It’s probably a midlife crisis.”

Boisoneau most recently participated in the NYC triathlon, kicking off the race with a 25-mile dip in the Hudson River. Training at the Mystic YMCA and Long Pond in Ledyard, he can also be seen cycling and running the back roads of Stonington.

At work, Boisoneau says that surgery is by far the best day because he possesses the ability to possibly change a life for the better, which makes his job fulfilling and fun. Early detection of life threatening illnesses sometimes occurs and Boisoneau can change the trajectory of a patient’s life as a result of his craft. Even now, he says it’s still fun to take out a tonsil even though he’s taken out over 1500.

“It’s important to me to make a difference in someone life, even if it’s not medicine,” Boisoneau said. “Making a change in someone’s life is fulfilling and satisfying and I have the ability to do that, which is why I sleep well at night.”
