Mystic Aquarium Sea Lions Ready To Roll The Dice For Foxwoods

Mystic Aquarium And Foxwoods Resort Casino Celebrate Sponsorship Agreement

It was all about the California sea lions at Thursday’s celebration of the sponsorship agreement between Foxwoods Resort Casino and the .

While representatives from Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mystic Aquarium, spoke about the agreement, and unveiled new signage, sea lions played in the background—stealing the show.

It’s just as well they did, since as part of the sponsorship agreement, , the Mystic Aquarium’s 1,200 seat Marine Theater, home to the California sea lion show, was renamed Foxwoods Marine Theater.

“We’re very, very proud of this partnership,” said Peter Glankoff, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs of the Sea Research Foundation’s Mystic Aquarium. “We’re celebrating a kind of monumental sponsorship at a time of critical importance to our local and national economy.

The sponsorship, according to a press release from the Mystic Aquarium, will focus, “…on marketing, co-branding and mutually beneficial cross-promotion.”

Members of Foxwoods Dream Rewards Card will receive discounted admission to the aquarium and there are plans to include the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center into the Mystic Pass Card. Currently the Mystic Pass Card offers a combined admission to the Mystic Aquarium and as well as discounts on hotels, restaurants and shops. According to a press release from the Mystic Aquarium the Mystic Pass Card generated 19,500 sales so far in 2011.

Sea Research President and CEO Dr. Stephen Coan and Foxwoods President & CEO Scott Butera stressed the importance of continuing to create a tourist destination area in southeastern Connecticut that will bring people to the region.

“We’re partners in making this a truly great place that people want to come to,” Coan said.

Butera who commented it was a lot of fun to make a presentation like this to sea lions echoed Coan’s words.

“We’re going to really market this area as a premier destination,” Butera said.

The formal sponsorship builds on a nearly two-decades-long relationship. Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Sea Research Foundation have worked together since the foundation of the casino. The two organizations have partnered on research expeditions off of Block Island and Foxwoods has helped with the conservation of artifacts the Sea Research Foundation has discovered by storing many of those artifacts.
