Mystic Schooner May Move to NYC

A group of New York area investors are hoping to buy the schooner docked in Mystic.

The three-mast schooner often seen docked off Holmes Street in Mystic, may soon be bringing the good name of our hometown to the Big Apple.

The original owner lost the schooner Mystic in foreclosure and now a group of New York-area investors are discussing purchasing the vessel to use commercially for harbor tours, day trips, short cruises and school groups down there, according to a report in The Day.

Hubert Delany, who is one of the current set of interested buyers, told reporters at The Day that he brought the 171-foot-long schooner to NYC for a Fourth of July party and it was very well received.

In March, Patch reported that Connecticut Community Boating was interested in the boat and would conduct educational trips for New York and New England youth and families but they had to raise $500,000 by May 1. That plan has been abandoned.
