NBCUniversal To Film A Movie In Mystic

Hollywood’s Coming to Mystic This Summer

All the glitz, glamour and sweat of the small screen is coming to Mystic this summer. NBCUniversal will produce a made-for-TV movie in Mystic.

“It’s an exciting event happening this summer,” Stonington First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr. said.

While many of the details about the movie are not yet known, filming will take place throughout Mystic for six weeks, mainly during the month of June. The Ramada Mystic hotel will be the primary location for filming.

Haberek said NBCUniversal was looking for a large location to film in and after meeting with town officials and the Ramada owners, the studio decided upon the location on Whitehall Avenue. But Haberek said filming will also occur throughout Mystic, including at some local food establishments.

"It's great news," said Tricia Cunningham, President of . "It'll bring in more people to eat in our restaurants, visit our shops and stay in our hotels."

It’s not the first time Hollywood has come to town. Many locals still talk about the filming of Mystic Pizza. Then there was the filming of Steven Spielberg’s Amistad. FedEx even filmed a commercial at the , which you can watch on YouTube. And let’s not forget the filming by Waterford’s Sonalysts Studios of Mystic Nights and Pirate Fights. Many locals had small appearances in those films and there’s no telling who will get to appear in this one.

The managers at the Ramada said people have been coming in looking for jobs, perhaps in the hopes that they will end up on the screen.

Cunningham is hopeful the film, depending on what it is, could be great exposure for Mystic.

Haberek said four significant stars will be in the film. The studio is still working out contracts and names have not yet been released.

And according to Haberek, executives from NBCUniversal and their families will be in town in the upcoming weeks and again during the filming. An opportunity Haberek hopes will allow the town to talk about additional filming projects.

“It will be a great addition to the area,” Haberek said.

The town invited a representative from the studio to speak more about the film at the Wednesday, , but is not yet sure if the representative will make it.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.
