Stonington-Mystic Patch Named Mystic Chamber's Business of the Month

'Since its introduction to our community just a few years ago, the Stonington-Mystic Patch has changed the way many people receive and discuss news.'

Stonington-Mystic Patch spends its days and nights covering the news in Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck, and writing stories about all the great people and businesses who live here.

We don't usually write about ourselves.

But since we write about the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce's Business of the Month every time the honor is bestowed, we really can't skip March just because it happens to be us.

Each month, the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce highlights a member business deserving of special recognition. We are thrilled to announce Stonington/ Mystic Patch as the March recipient of the Business of the Month award.

Since its introduction to our community just a few years ago, the Stonington/Mystic Patch has changed the way many people receive and discuss news while also becoming a force in modern media communications. Providing global, national, state, and local news in a user friendly and community-centric format, Patch has become, for many, an essential provider of up-to-the-minute news via social media and their network of individual town/city websites.

Patch also provides a more personal forum for feedback that connects us as a community. For local businesses, Patch has become an essential tool in getting the word out with relevant and timely news, especially during the numerous recent storms when power was out for multiple days. And, for the users, Patch has become a major go-to resource for local information and updates.

Of course, the credit for the success of the Stonington-Mystic Patch goes to its editor, Bree Shirvell, whose last day of work was Friday. Bree launched the site in December of 2010 while simultaneously finishing her master's thesis and getting her degree from Quinnipiac. Since then she has worked tirelessly to make Stonington-Mystic Patch the go-to place for everyone in the community to get the information they needed, whether it was during a natural disaster, a school vacation fiasco, or a streetscape project.

The credit also goes to the community, which has embraced Patch warmly with both arms, and which makes our calendar, our announcements, our photo gallery and our Local Voices platform the vibrant areas that they they become.

"I was thrilled when I heard we were named the Mystic Chamber Business of the month," said Patch Regional Publisher Mike Pendergast. "Our local Patch sites in Southeastern Connecticut have become an integral part of the communities because of our local coverage of government, schools, local businesses, community events and everything else happening in town. The growth to our sites over the past three years has been tremendous and is the direct effort of our local editors becoming ingrained in the communities they serve and providing local users with news and information not covered elsewhere."

As a resident of Stonington myself I am so proud of what Stonington-Mystic Patch has become, and I look forward to the future of the site and our town. And best of luck to Bree in her new endeavors!
