UPDATED: Beth-Ann Stewart Named New Stonington COMO Director

A Stonington Community Center Board Member confirmed to Patch that Human Services Director Beth-Ann Stewart will be the new Director of the Stonington COMO.

Oct. 10, 2012 9:20 a.m.: Current Stonington Human Services Director Beth-Ann Stewart is leaving her position to become the new Stonington Community Center Director.

“The COMO has a long tradition of serving the citizens of Stonington, and I feel honored to have been selected as the new Executive Director,” Stewart said. “I am very excited to join the talented team of Board and staff members dedicated to promoting the COMO mission designed to strengthen our community. I truly look forward to reaching out to all stakeholders, sustaining current partnerships, and building new ones as the COMO continues to be an integral part of Stonington’s history and future.”

Stewart submitted a letter resigning her position as the Stonington Human Services Director on Tuesday, Oct. 9. She will begin her new role as the Director of the Stonington COMO on Nov. 5, 2012.

The Stonington COMO began to search for a new director in June after Jim Truscio resigned the position.

“After an extensive search and an overwhelming response for this position the Board and staff are delighted to welcome Beth-Ann Stewart to the COMO,” Stonington COMO Board of Directors President Kathryn Nason Burchenal said. “Beth-Ann distinguished herself with very strong professional and academic experience, strategic leadership qualities, and a deep commitment to this community. She embodies the values and principles of the COMO and this gives us great confidence in her ability to lead this special organization.”

For the past 12 years Stewart has served as the town’s Human Services Director. She is also involved in several community organizations including the Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality, Inc., and the Southeastern CT Housing Alliance.

Stewart will be the fourth Stonington COMO Director in eight years.

A Stonington COMO board member confirmed to Stonington-Mystic Patch that Stewart will take the Director of the COMO position. No information on when Stewart will start was available.

The Stonington COMO began to search for a new director in June after Jim Truscio resigned the position.

Stewart will be the fourth director in eight years.
