Books-A-Million Effort to Assist Whale's Tale Book Bank

Waterford store part of nationwide effort and will collect donations for New London book bank

A Waterford bookstore is accepting donations during the holiday season to benefit a New London book bank.

Books-A-Million will collect donations for the Whale's Tale Book Bank through Dec. 24 at its Waterford Commons store. Customers may purchase a book or toy for donation to the book bank and may include a personalized bookplate to dedicate the book in someone's honor or memory.

"We are very grateful for Books-A-Million helping us spread the love of literacy with families in need in our community, especially during this time of year," said Tina Salcedo, early education and literacy coordinator at New London Youth Affairs.

The Whale's Tale Book Bank, currently located in the Martin Center, was established in 2004. It is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to coordinating with schools to distribute books and pick up book donations, drop boxes are available at Fiddleheads Food Co-op and Bean and Leaf for anyone who wishes to drop off donations. The Books-A-Million effort takes over for an annual drive once coordinated by Borders, which formerly occupied the Books-A-Million store and went out of business last year.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.
