Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect for Stonington

Moderate coastal flooding expected this evening

With snow continuing to fall in Stonington, the National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for the area in addition to the blizzard warning already in effect.

The coastal flood advisory will go in effect at 6 p.m., on Friday and stay in effect until midnight. Moderate to coastal flooding is expected.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy declared a state of emergency earlier today and state roads closed at noon. CT TRANSIT bus service will begin shutting down service at 4 p.m. today, and all buses will stop running by 6 p.m. This shut down will be in effect for the entire state until further notice. In a press release this afternoon Connecticut Light & Power said they are pre-staging employees and materials in locations across the state, and that in addition to CL&P’s approximately 400 line workers, hundreds of outside line workers are arriving to provide assistance, with hundreds more expected tomorrow.

This Afternoon: Snow. High near 37. Windy, with a northeast wind 25 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 22. Windy, with a northeast wind 32 to 38 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 11 to 17 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow, mainly before noon. High near 28. Windy, with a north wind 26 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. Wind chill values as low as -2. Blustery, with a north wind 14 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph.
