CUSH Sponsors Natural Lawn and Turf Management Workshops

The free workshops will take place in February.

Clean Up Sound and Harbors (CUSH) is conducting two days of Natural Lawn and Turf Management Workshops in February. Charles “Chip” Osborne, founder and president of Osborne Organics and a member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association Board will lead the free workshops.

CUSH’s mission is to clean up and protect the waters of Fishers Island Sound and its coves, inlets, bays, rivers and harbors. As part of that mission CUSH advocates for organic gardening and natural lawn and turf management.

Natural Turf Management: An Overview: takes place on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stonington Police Department. The workshop is geared towards people maintaining playing fields on a budget. Osborne will also consult with Stonington officials on reconstructing the town’s turf playing fields.

takes place on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mystic Arts Center. Private residential and business property owners will learn what to do, what products to use, and if they use a landscaping company, how to instruct and monitor their contractors so the work is done properly.

Simple Steps to
Organic Lawn Care: takes place on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 9 a.m. to noon and is geared towards residential and business property owners that are new to organic lawn practices.

Systems ApproachTM to Natural Turf Management: takes place on Friday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 4 p.m., and is geared towards residential and business property owners that already have a working knowledge of organic lawn practices and want to dig deeper.
