Daily Five: Irish Parade Parking Rules, Welcome Back Misquamicut

Five things to know for Friday March 22, 2013.

1. Will we ever be warm again? Here's the forecast for today and through the weekend from our friends at the National Weather Service:

  • Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 39. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. West wind around 8 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 43. West wind 9 to 17 mph.
  • Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 43.

2. Groton and Stonington Police issued the parking and traffic advisories for Sunday's Irish Parade in Mystic, which starts at 1 p.m.

The road closures will occur at approximately 12:30 p.m., and will remain in effect until approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the parade.

The road closures are as listed:

  • Rte 27: From Coogan Blvd, to School St.,
  • Willow St.: From Rte 27 to Broadway Ave.
  • Broadway Ave: From Willow St to East Main St.
  • East Main St: From Broadway Ave to the Drawbridge.
  • West Main St: From the Drawbridge to High St.,
  • Water Street: From West Main St., to New London Rd.
  • Pearl Street: From West Main St., to Clift St.,
  • Gravel Street: From West Main St., to Clift St.

The Temporary No Parking Order will be effective from 4:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The roads effected as listed.

3.  The Westerly-Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce is organizing a Hands Across the Sands event to help mark the recovery of the Misquamicut beach community in time for the summer season. On Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m.
"3,000+ residents, school children, volunteers, business leaders, Misquamicut business owners, state officials, military, political leaders, etc. will gather along the entire stretch of Misquamicut shoreline, from the Pleasant View Inn to the Westerly Town Beach, holding hands in a symbolic gesture to show we are united after months of recovery efforts." 4. Just a reminder that the public hearing on the 2013-14 budget has been set for Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the Stonington High School Auditorium.

5. Those awesome Lenten fish fries are winding down. There's the Fish Fry at the B. F. Hoxie Engine Company and there's also Fish & Chips at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society. Don't forget the Stations of the Cross & Fish Fry on Enders Island.
