Highway Department Asking Residents Not To Rake Leaves Along The Edge of Roads

An alert from the Highway Department

The Stonington High Deaprtment issued the following alert on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012:

In anticipation of the storm that is rolling up from the South, we are asking residents not to rake and/or blow their leaves along the edge of the road this weekend.  Our crews have been out the last few days trying to clear as many of the catch basin tops as possible.  With the possibility of heavy rains and leaves in the gutterline, catch basin tops have the ability to get clogged. If during  the storm you think a catch basin has become clogged with leaves, we ask that you call the Department at 535-5055.  In the meantime, if you know of basins that might be clogged, we would greatly appreciate the public’s assistance in clearing off the basin tops if you can.
