PHOTOS: Hurricane Sandy Begins To Hit The Area

With the worst still ahead, Mystic, Stonignton and Pawcatuck were already beginning to feel the affects of Hurricane Sandy Monday morning.

With no school and many locals home from work, residents in Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck were out walking around Monday morning.

At 11:30 a.m. about 930 CL&P customers were without power in Stonington and about 1,500 in Groton. Some streets in Mystic, Stonington and Pawcatuck are flooded and roads are beginning to close.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy ordered road closures for all state highways. The closures were implemented in two phases. At 11:00 a.m., trucks will be prohibited from operating on limited access highways. At 1:00 p.m., state highways will be closed to all non-emergency related vehicles.

According to First Selectman Ed and Mary Hall and River Roads in Pawcatuck are flooded. There have also been reports of flooding on West Main Street in Mystic.

If you lose power report it to CL&P by using the "Report an Outage" tool or calling CL&P at 800-286-2000. If you have Stonington questions call the Stonington Emergency Operations Center at 860-535-5050
