Red Cross Opens Overnight Regional Shelter in Groton for Weekend

Shelter would serve residents from Groton, Ledyard and Stonington.

The Red Cross has opened an overnight shelter at the Groton Senior Center through Monday, for people who are still without power and heat.

Shelter Manager Joe Jackson said the Red Cross would reassess the demand for shelter Monday to decide whether to keep it open longer.

The temperature was expected to drop to 35 degrees tonight, according the National Weather Service.

The shelter would be available to residents of Groton, Ledyard and Stonington, and would provide cots, three meals, snacks, showers and outlets to power electronic equipment.

Connecticut Light & Power reported 4,779 customers in Stonington still without power as of 2 p.m.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.
