The Mystic Aquarium Turns Forty

The aquarium opened on October 6, 1973.

The Mystic Aquarium turns the big 4-0 this year. According to a press release the aquarium opened on Oct. 6, 1973, to showcase a new artificial seawater product, Instant Ocean.

Learn about the history of the Mystic Aquarium and see historical photos at www.mysticaquarium.org/40years. And celebrate with the Mystic Aquarium all year-long. While the aquarium won’t hold a birthday party until October there special events and activities planned throughout the year.

Guests born in 1973 will receive general admission for $19.73 during their birthday month. Proof of birthday is required at gate.

Celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary this year? Married couples will receive general admission for $19.73 during their anniversary month. Marriage certificate is required at gate.

And beginning in March fans of the aquarium’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/mysticaquarium have an opportunity to participate in 40 weeks of giveaways
