Hopefully you are having a relaxing long-weekend after the busy we week we had. We spent the beginning of the week getting ready for the back to school dash. The crisp, cool Wednesday morning air invoked thoughts of fall as students for the first day of school. From second grade to high school Stonington students reported being both nervous and excited for the first day of school. It takes some time to get into the routine of school. Virginia Brown, Co-Owner of , Director of Special Services for Stonington Schools and the mother of two boys, shares .

. While Stonington Public Schools started on time for school this year it was only a year ago that Tropical Storm Irene delayed the beginning of the school year. spent tens of millions in its effort to improve its storm restoration efforts.

Labor Day means it's almost time for the Taste of Mystic. The three-day event featuring food samples and entertainment from around the region begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 7, and continues to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9. This year Patch will be sponsoring the People’s Choice Award at the Taste of Mystic. During the three-day festival Taste goers will be able to text their votes and see a live leader board on Patch. Taste of Mystic participants and shared some of the things they are looking forward about the Taste with Patch this week.

I agree. The bottom line is we're all defenseless if we are deprived of our right to bear arms. GunRead More restrictions do nothing to prevent criminals from getting and using guns. They simply impede law-abiding citizens from getting and using them to defend ourselves from the criminals. I don't want to be stuck at a gunfight with nothing more than a cell phone camera.
