A Recap Of The Week's Top Stories On Stonington-Mystic Patch

Much of the news this week was about what was many residents favorite doughnut shop. It’s official Bess Eaton is back. On Monday, officials confirmed the filing of applications to open the shop in Westerly and Pawcatuck. On Facebook and Stonington-Mystic Patch, locals shared their memories of the original company and their hopes for the future ones.

Can you smell it? No, not the doughnuts—spring. It’s almost spring, and that means baseball. Elissa Bass got locals, young and old, reminiscing about Pawcatuck Little League on Monday. What are your field of dreams memories?

On Tuesday, Patch chatted with Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Owner Matthew Hopkins. With a penchant and an eye for all things rare and unusual Hopkins shares the opulence with the Stonington and Mystic area.

Parents and teens have until Wednesday, March 16 to sign up for Stonington’s Family University. The series of workshops designed to help local parents and teens tackle tough topics like teen driving, dating, finances, bullying and body image is slated for Wednesday, March 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Last summer Stonington adopted a blight ordinance giving the town the power to order property owners to comply with zoning regulations. Property owners who failed could face fines of up to $2,500. The blight ordinance was the subject of Tuesday’s Zoning Board of Appeals. Do you think the ordinance is working?

Later in the week the town’s Board of Finance began deliberations on the town budget. Cuts are virtually guaranteed but it isn’t clear from where.

With spring in the air it’s also time to start thinking about . The Stonington-Mystic area is lucky to have a plethora of summer camp options. It was the focus of this week’s Patch Picks. What were some of your favorite camps as a child?
