A Recap Of The Week's Top Stories On Stonington-Mystic Patch

It was a week that started off with some sad news. died at the age of 80 in North Stonington. The New London native lived most of his life in Mystic and was an English teacher and cross-country coach in Groton. On Tuesday evening before the runners held a moment of silence for Kelley and on Thursday morning the community said at a service at the Union Mystic Baptist Church.

Residents spent most of the week preparing for Hurricane Irene. and issued preparation tips, businesses got ready for the worst, and everyone took a look back at some famous hurricanes. Patch will have updates on the hurricane throughout the day as needed. Stay dry and stay safe!

Parking in downtown Mystic is at times frustrating, but a newly installed credit card swipe payment system is making quite a few people angry. The Mystic Arts Center recently installed the system in the that they own part of, but some local business owners say the new system is causing traffic jams and even hurting their businesses.

While parking is creating a debate in Mystic the unofficial dog park is continuing to stir up controversy in Stonington. The town is to the park open, effectively preventing it from being a secure off-leash area for dogs.

One thing the majority of the community agreed upon, however, was their shock over learning a was charged with child pornography. Throughout the week residents have voiced their surprise, concern and support for the pediatrics practice, on Patch.
