A Recap Of The Week's Top Stories On Stonington-Mystic Patch

Much of the news this week was about last year.

The last week of March 2011 marked a year since heavy rainfall caused severe flooding throughout southeastern Connecticut. Stonington-Mystic Patch spoke with the town’s strengths in handling the storm as well what they learned.  In downtown Pawcatuck, which saw some of the worst flooding and had to be evacuated, . And our fellow Patch sites in Waterford, Groton, Montville and Ledyard had stories about the flooding in their towns and what life is like one year later.

It wasn’t all rain, however. We met Stonington High School student , a budding artist and equestrian, in this week’s installment of Whiz Kid. We’re searching for other outstanding local kids, so send use your nominations.

If you’ve ever wanted to live rent-free, and really who hasn’t, the Connecticut Department of Environment Protection has an interesting proposal. in Derby or in Granby. The catch is you have to give tours, and provide routine maintenance of the properties.

Mystical Musings And Happenings columnist Wendy Vincent has been on a bit of a food kick lately. But with an abundance of local options for food and beer it’s hard to blame her. This week she explored Connecticut’s maple syrup and found a number of places where it’s still possible to .

Wednesday was at Stonington High School. About 150 parents and students came out to discuss topics such as Internet safety, healthy relationships, teen driving and other “sticky” topics.

The week may have ended cold and rainy, but if you’re missing the sunshine, head over to Mystic’s Sandbox. Owner a bit of sun in the area with his indoor beach sports club.
