Week In Review: Sandy, Mystic Restaurant Week and Whit Davis

A Recap Of The Week's Top Stories On Stonington-Mystic Patch

Hurricane Sandy was still the focus of much of the week in Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck. Most businesses reopened and CL&P restored power to everyone in town by Tuesday. Some of the businesses used the days without power to clean up, and many individuals and businesses offered to help locals in need.

The week marked an end to the election season. In Stonington the polls were busy for much of the morning, but slowed in the afternoon. About 70 percent of the town’s registered voters cast ballots slightly less than in 2008. Stonington voters elected mainly democratic candidates.

Hopefully, you got your full of Mystic food during Mystic Restaurant Week. The 2012 event ended on Saturday with fireworks. Throughout the week 19 restaurants in Mystic and Groton offered one priced dining for lunch and dinner. You can still vote for your favorite Mystic Restaurant Week restaurant in the Patch Poll.

Whit Davis of the Stanton Davis Farm is retiring. A retirement party is being held on Nov. 16, 2012 in Davis's honor. Tom Santos wrote about Davis in his blog post Celebrating An Old Time Farmer. Davis, 88, has run the farm for decades and will now pass it on to his son Larry Davis.
