Week In Review: Seaport Unionization, Budget Referendum Fails, More Budget Cuts

More details began emerging about a plan for this week. According to several staff members most of the 200-plus employees are supportive and on board with the formation of a union called Mystic Seaport United. Stonington-Mystic Patch during the week and learned about the union organizing process and their reasons for wanting to form a union.

Stonington held a budget referendum vote this week and by a margin of 32 votes. The no vote sent the Board of Finance back to the drawing board at their Wednesday meeting where they made additional cuts to the budget .

There were an awful lot of reminders about voting on the budget. Supertindent resigned on Thursday. In an email to the board Masterjoseph wrote: "Please accept this letter as notification of my resignation as Superintendent of Schools in Stonington effective June 30, 2012. I have enthusiastically accepted a new position which will afford me continued opportunities for growth and new learning. It has been my honor to serve the community of Stonington."
