Week In Review: Snow, Misquamicut, Valentine’s Day

A recap of the week’s top stories on Stonington-Mystic Patch

By Monday morning the good news was the vast majority of Stonington CL&P customers had power, after nearly 70 percent of town was out power during the height of the February Blizzard that parlayed the state. Stonington Public School students had another school day on Monday as the town struggled to clear the roadways and sidewalks of snow and other debris from the storm. And those that did had to go out often ended up getting stuck.

Things were back to normal for Valentine’s Day on Thursday though. Did you celebrate the holiday? What’s the best gift (purchased from a local store) anyone has ever given you for Valentine’s Day? Valentine’s Day also meant the Mystic Seaport is open again. And all this week they the seaport is celebrating. Children 17 and under get in for free as long as they are accompanied by an .

Memorial Day Weekend 2013 is only a few short months away. The Misquamicut Beach community vows to be open well before Memorial Day but after last year’s hurricane they still need some help. Regional tourism officials and business leaders gathered Tuesday afternoon for an impromptu meeting convened by Olde Mistick Village owner Joyce Olson Resnikoff on Misquamicut Beach's recovery from Hurricane Sandy, and the result was a sizeable donation to the beach's comeback fund.
