Hurricane Sandy Updates From Stonington's First Selectman: Tuesday October 30 AM

Hurricane Sandy has now gone through Stonington and we are in a recovery effort.

Hurricane Sandy has now gone through Stonington and we are in a recovery effort. We sustained much damage and flooding but thank god no casualties. I will attempt give you updates and information. Town Hall Phone & Internet access were damaged in the storm. I am able to communicate through Facebook, Twitter and Cell.

Multiple roads are impassable in the morning so far and a great deal have power lines down also. I will periodically give updates on openings are they occur. That is our main highway crew project to restore access throughout town. Highway crews worked last night to restore critical 911 access within town.

CL&P is in our EOC directly the tree & utility crew to recover the wire, transformer damage in town. They also have a service crew working on circuits to try to restore power to places. We have 65 power line vs. tree issues in town

The shelter is open today for displaced residents. 108 residents stayed there last night. We are making assessment going forward at 4pm.

Grocery stores are open in the town including McQuades in Westerly and Mystic, Stop & Shop in Pawcatuck and Big Y in Mystic.

Thanks for all you do, Ed! It's good to hear there were no casualties during the storm. But sometimes the bigger risks are during clean up. Be safe, everyone!
