Hurricane Sandy Updates From The First Selectman Monday October 29, Noon

As we get closer to the Hurricane arrival, I again stress the need for evacuating low lying areas.

As we get closer to the Hurricane arrival, I again stress the need for evacuating low-lying areas. The evening high tide is a moon tide and will bring great storm surges. Doubled with possible power outages are going to make extremely difficult conditions. Please take alternate shelter if you live in these areas. Flood maps are on the Town of Stonington website also.

Conditions will deteriorate around 3 p.m. on through midnight with extreme wind gust and storm surge this evening.

Some updates:

  • Governor has mandated Gold Star Bridge closed and Non-emergency vehicle stay off roads after 1pm.
  • Power lines are down in various areas. Please stay indoors as these wires and trees may be unseen right away.
  • Various flooded streets in Old Mystic, Mystic, Mason’s Island, and lower Pawcatuck.
  • Town Shelter at SHS is open and receiving residents. If you have a pet (Dog, Cat & Turtles) please bring necessary items with them.

For any general questions or assistance, I have Town Staff available to answer questions at 860-535-5050 throughout the day and night. If you have an emergency please call 911.

I look to provide updates on Facebook (Edward Haberek Jr), Twitter (@FirstSelectman), my Blog (http://ehaberek.wordpress.com/) , Stonington Patch and traditional media.
