Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree …Now What?

Great day to take that tree down, but now what do you do with it?

In Stonington, sanitation trucks will grab that tree free of charge. Just put it out in the trash. That said, town officials said it may sit through one or two pickup cycles, so if it’s on the curb for a week, don’t worry, they’ll get to it, we we’re told. Also, and this is super important, make sure there’s no decoration at all on the tree; not even a scrap of tinsel.

In the Borough, tree pickup is done at the same day as brush pickup (the first Monday of the month), in this case Monday, Jan. 6. Again, make sure the tree is free of any and all decoration.

Suppose you don’t want to trash it? A whole tree makes a cool bird shelter in your backyard; string it with popcorn, berries, or citrus peels – room and board!
