Astronomy Basics - Part 2

The Mystic & Noank Library and Mystic Seaport are presenting a two-part program on astronomy basics on Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26, 2014.  The Wednesday, June 25 illustrated talk by Mystic Seaport Treworgy Planetarium Supervisor, Brian Koehler, takes place at the Mystic & Noank Library at 7:00 p.m.  Those who have attended are invited to a special viewing at Mystic Seaport’s Treworgy Planetarium on Thursday, June 26 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Following the show and if weather permits, participants will be allowed to look through the Museum’s powerful telescopes at many of the planets and constellations.
Brian J. Koehler graduated from St. Joseph’s College (NY) in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Secondary Education. He is certified by the State of New York to teach Social Studies to Middle School and High School grade levels. In October of 2010, Brian started working at Mystic Seaport, and spent three years managing the Ship to Shore overnight maritime history program. After working at the Treworgy Planetarium during the summer of 2013, he was promoted to Planetarium Supervisor in November of 2013. Brian now works to fulfill the planetarium’s mission of science education, and making connections between the sciences and maritime history.
Both talks are free and open to the public, but advance registration is required and space is limited. Call the Library at (860) 536-7721 or email shalsey@mysticnoanklibrary.org to register. The program is appropriate for ages 10 and up, and it is highly recommended that participants attend both evening talks. Priority will be given to those who attend both talks.
