Former Connecticut Congressman and Essex resident Robert H. Steele will discuss his new newly-published book "The Curse; Big-Time Gambling's Seduction Of A Small New England Town," Tuesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. at The Westerly Public Library.
Steel's novel is set against the explosion of casino gambling in Connecticut during the 1990's, when two Indian tribes built the world's two biggest casinos just eight miles apart. His unique vantage point, first as a legislator for eastern Connecticut and later as a neighbor living on the edge of the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation, provided him with a keen appreciation of the political maneuverings that brought the casinos into being, as well as a first-hand view of their impact. Books will be available for signing and sale.
