Louise O'Boyle of Stonington, Connecticut created a gingerbread house replica of her historic family home.
The gingerbread house is modeled after the Charles Hatheway house in Suffield, Connecticut, which was built in 1752. Generations of the Hatheway family occupied the home until 1939 when it was sold to Louise's grandfather, Stanley Markowski. Two generations of the O'Boyle's family lived in the old house, and Louise's mother and seven siblings were born in the house.
Over a five week period, Louise spent approximately 40 hours making the gingerbread house replica. She used seven batches of frosting that required seven pounds of confectioner's sugar and 21 egg whites. The roof is made of about 35 packages of Black Jack gum. The infrastructure required two batches of "construction grade" gingerbread.
