I have been following the rise of Peter Thiel for a decade. That he is brilliant. original. and highly successful is without question. That he may be one of the greatest threats to Democracy and the potential for each citizen to develop and express to their fullest potential is another matter.
Hopefully, a number of you viewed tonight's 60 Minutes that primarily focused on Thiel's inducements to America"s Best and Brightest to drop out of college so that they might singularly focus on a primary reseach topic that would be of "immediate"(I read as "profitable") value. Translation: "cease what you are doing to become a person of wide ranging knowledge and multifaceted interests and life concerns - focus on the here and now and maybe get rich and make me richer."
Thiel is a self-serving contradiction. His own education is superlative in its breadth and quality - it allowed him to come from middle class roots to Billionaire status. Now he seeks by financial inducement ,during the worst economy since the 1930's, to create a breed of one trick ponies that will profit him - but never compete with him.
I could write thousands more words - all for nought - you owe it to yourself and our Nation to find out more concerning Peter Thiel. If not for yourself, do so for your kids and grandkids, because unless countered Thiel and kindred profiteers will control their futures - and what he intends, I do not think you will approve.
Prediction: This Blog will be lambasted by members of the Libertarian Party who see Thiel as a messiah, or a major prophet.
