How To Use Your Tax Return to Your Advantage

So, you have this great tax return and want to go out to a nice dinner or buy that big screen or sofa.  Don't.  That's the fast track to continuing to live paycheck to paycheck. Put that money in your Savings account.  You have budgeted and survived all year long without that money.  If you act like that money never came, then you will have a back up plan for when you need it.  It could be an emergency operation that your health insurance doesn't cover, or money for a car after an accident, or money for the downpayment of your next home.  You could use it to pay down some debt, like a credit card or car loan with a high interest rate.  Why go and blow it on something you didn't need in the first place?  This is the first step and a head start to getting out of the rat race of living paycheck to paycheck.

What are you going to do with your tax return?  I'm always looking for great ideas.
