Earth Week Events at Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

Earth Day is April 22, and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has three fantastic Earth Week events, all sponsored by our friends and neighbors at StoneRidge senior living community in Mystic.

Mystic, CT — Earth Day is April 22, and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has three fantastic Earth Week events, all sponsored by our friends and neighbors at StoneRidge senior living community in Mystic.

On Tuesday, April 22 we offer the next in our Back to Basics series: a Green Cleaning Workshop from 6-8:30 p.m. at DPNC. Learn how to make your own laundry detergent, dish soap, dish scrubbers, and more out of ecologically friendly materials. We'll create lots of great products to take home along with recipes and ideas to green up your cleaning! $30/members, $35/nonmembers.

On Thursday, April 24, another Back to Basics program: Upcycled Sweaters from 6-8:30 p.m., at DPNC. Worn winter sweaters can be made into something fun and new. Our creative guests Pam and Marilyn will show us how to turn wool sweaters into mittens, hat, and a cute cupcake pincushion, all in one evening. Please bring your own scissors (fabric and paper), and sewing machine if you have one. We'll supply needles, thread, and sweaters or you can bring your own (machine washed and dried 100% wool) sweater. $25/member, $30/nonmember

On Saturday April 26, to close out Earth Week and celebrate Arbor Day, which is Friday April 25, we are hosting a presentation at 10 a.m., at Coogan Farm (162 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic). Arborist Nick Vallas of Bartlett Tree Experts of Essex, CT, who has 20+ years of experience and is state licensed, will lead a walk and talk about pruning ornamental trees and shrubs. Wear your walking shoes, bring your questions, and take home a free white oak sapling! FREE.
