Former First Selectman Jim Spellman Died Friday

Spellman, 92, was the longest longest serving first selectman in Stonington's history.

Former First Selectman Jim Spellman died Friday at the age of 92.

"I will miss Former First Selectman James Spellman very much," First Selectman Ed Haberek Jr., posted on Facebook. "Mr. Spellman led the Town of Stonington for 24 years. He was a tremendous town leader and his service to our community was remarkable. As John Quincy Adams stated, 'If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.'  He was an inspiring leader and a trusted friend and we honor him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

Spellman was the longest serving first selectman in Stonington's history.
