Patch's Poll: How Many Pets Do You Own?

We were amazed last week in our dog- and cat-name polls at the number of multi-pet families among our readership. Take our poll, and add photos of those packs to the article!

You just never know what is going to strike a chord with folks.

Last week, we posted two consecutive polls - most popular dog names and cat names of 2011 - based on information from Veterinary Pet Insurance Co (VPI) and Petfinder.com. As part of the poll, we asked people to post photos of their pets as well.

Clearly, we love our dogs and we love our cats.

What did surprise us from these articles was the number of people who have more than one pet - in some cases, lots and lots more!

So today we want you to take our poll, and then post photos of your "packs" - whether they be dogs, cats, goldfish, ferrets or all of the above!

1 adopted Cockatiel who plucks his feathers (needy)

Currently one dog and one cat but our max population was three dogs and six cats. The one cat is the last of the six and he is thirteen or fourteen years old. The current dog is a replacement twice removed for one of the original three.

There are six dogs in our household. From a Shih Tzu to an American Mastiff. All with different personalities and quirks. They are truly a pleasure and keep us laughing constantly with their antics.

Pam, what a fabulous family photo! Which dog is the boss?
Fay Abrahamsson (Editor) January 17, 2012 at 01:29 pm
Pam - I LOVE the family photo! Was it your holiday card this year?
Sue P. January 17, 2012 at 01:50 pm
I think the question should be how many pets own you? Humans are the ones feeding and cleaning up after them. They own us but we are not suppose to know it. SSHHHHH
Clasina January 17, 2012 at 03:49 pm
Our pet family consists of 2 dogs, Corky & Abby, 1 Cockatiel, named Puppet, who speaks several phrases such as, "Good Morning, Puppet", "Pretty Birdie", "Pretty Puppet", etc., 45 gallon aquarium and one fire belly newt that was my son's 8th grade science project... and my son is now 23!
Tiffany Fogg-Jones January 17, 2012 at 04:10 pm
5 dogs 1 cat ..2 birds ..as my husband says ..its a zoo
Clasina January 17, 2012 at 04:14 pm
Susan, I so agree with your comment! We don't own them, but they certainly own us!
Brian Phillips January 17, 2012 at 04:40 pm
Sadly, I have no pets. My son seems to be allergic to them. Any recommendations for a hypo-allergenic feline?
Tiffany E Williams January 17, 2012 at 05:28 pm
Opps I forgot my tortoise. Along with Xena the scardy dog(11), Duster(13), Our new rescue Thitch(6). Twitch has a heart condition. But is a beautiful cat & we hope he lives a long time.
Pem McNerney (Editor) January 17, 2012 at 05:39 pm
Two cats. And someday when my life is a little less crazy, I will get a dog.
Pamela C Maher January 17, 2012 at 10:26 pm
Quite a few people have asked who the 'boss' is. Kamala, the newest to the pack, has no problem controlling the rest. She will get right up in Duke's face. She has no idea she is only 17 lbs., and that he could swallow her whole in a heart beat. All except Duke are local rescues and it is amazing how they all get along. They keep me laughing constantly with their antics.
Pamela C Maher January 17, 2012 at 10:30 pm
Actually Fay, they were in holiday hats and ears in front of the tree for my holiday card.
Now that was a fiasco because my Pug Murphy hates getting dressed for anything. You could definitely see the 'is this over yet' look in his eyes.
Pamela C Maher January 17, 2012 at 10:34 pm
You might check out sphynx cats. No hair, but they do have dander.
Pamela C Maher January 17, 2012 at 10:36 pm
Yes, please post a photo.
Nancy Bovich January 18, 2012 at 12:25 am
We have 3 dogs (2 Jack Russell's & Chocolate lab), 1 black cat, 1 horse!
Sharon Stegall January 18, 2012 at 12:33 am
Other cat breeds for those who are just allergic to the dander (not the saliva) are the Devon Rex, the Cornish Rex and the Siberian.
Donna Kenyon January 18, 2012 at 01:59 am
sphynx cat is ok but quire frankly, they aren't very pretty. A poodle has real hair and may be just the thing for your son.
Donna Kenyon January 18, 2012 at 02:03 am
2 dogs, 4 cats and I would also like to see the picture of the hedgehog...they are soooo cute. Had a chinchilla and never thought I would like a rodent but he sure was the sweetest thing.
Olivia Hugo January 24, 2013 at 08:40 pm
Well right now I only have a cat named Levi.(boy). In the past (counting Levi) I have had 8kittens, 5 cats, 6 fish, 6 dogs, 12 chickens, and 2 ducks.
The dogs- 1st was Toby I was a baby when we had him, he was a white dog I don't know what kind of dog but he was small..... I am pretty sure he was a schnauzer. My 2nd dog was Abby who was a big calm dog, I am pretty sure she was a mix of a Golden retriever and bulldog! My 3rd was Tracker who I had gotten for Christmas. He was a hunting dog and very crazy. My 4th dog was Jasper he was a Yorkshire terrier. My 5th dog was Penelope (another Yorkshire terrier!) My 6th dog was Peewee ( a Chihuahua!) He was golden.
